The PayoffBuilding on the demonstrated success of our original wintering efforts using Nuc Boxes, we then added re-inforcement to the Nuc boxes themselves, as well as metal inserts for the lids for durability. Since 1988 this design has endured and we currently winter 5000 hives using this technology. Many of those original Nuc boxes are still in use 27 years later.Dual UsageIn addition to the benefits we gain from wintering our bees in these Nucs, we also use these same boxes for raising new queens during the summer months. |

Value For Your NeedsThe Nuc Box is made with high density polystyrene foam and is further protected on the top of the box as well as both sides of the lid with a coating of rigid polystyrene. This allows use of a hive tool to pry the lids off of the box without damaging the styrofoam.The hive entrance is not installed as many beekeepers have different requirements for their areas. We use 1" PVC pipe between the second and third frame, so as to allow bees free access between the frames. |
