Wintering
Restocking the 5 Frame NucsThere are many ways to establish bees in nuc boxes for wintering. We overwinter most of our bees from the same Nucs used for raising queens.During the summer months we simply leave the last queen that was raised in them, remove any excess honey and then boost them with bulk bees that are removed from our summertime honey producing hives. This brings the bees up to a more robust strength for wintering. |

Feeding and OrganizationOnce they are boosted with bulk bees they are fed sugar syrup to bring them up to the correct weight to endure the winter. We have them individually placed in the summer locations to allow for proper mating yards, but we palletize them on pallets of 8 for transport and to spend the winter months. |
